Hong Kong A tiny dot on the map, a concrete jungle overcrowded with people and surrounded by water....beside getting cheap fake goods there's still some fishing to be done here.

Default Plover Cove update

March 7

Yesterday I scouted the area for potential carp fishing spots. A pleasant surprise. The water level of PC has dropped by 10-15ft. There is great potential spot along Brides Pool road at the Chung Mei BBQ spot (It is the one just before Brides Pool BBQ spot) . The banks are gently sloping so using rod pods is no problem. The far side of the bank of Bride Pool river is less than 80 yds. The water movement is same as PV. Depth is estimated amount 10 ft. Quite few anglers. Jaggers and some tilipia fisherman. But still plenty of bank space for us to fish I think this is the time to assault PC for the big carp. At least now, PC is fishable and no longer looks like a vast ocean.

Cheers

I did not hang around long enough to see any. But I am sure they are there. Don't worry about March 31. That is just a date on the calender. I fish where and whenever there are fish or carp. But anyhow for those law abiding citizens, I think March 27-28 week end should be a good potential time to try when the weather warms up a bit. I meantime I am going to buy the 100kg bag of maize. Since it is a lot, anybody running low in stock can get some from me on share cost basis. Also I am quietly testing the bait boat in private. Don't want any witness to see me make a silly act that may award me the PT again.

hi everyone,

I had a look at Pover Clove on googlemap......its huge! Not sure how to approach this size of water. Finding the carp is not going to be easy. Is there anyway to find out what the bottom is like? some sort of ordinance map etc? I not fished anything this big, more used smaller waters jammed with carp. Be very interesting to try this place out. Distance casting...100 yards++ needed for this place...

cheers

Hi Nathan,

Don't be sorry, if you dont ask you will not know! Thats what SFA forum is all about! To share and learn from each other, that way we ensure the standard of fish care and methods increase.

To answer your question, Yes the same but 99.9% Common Carp with very few mirror Carp.

Also there are Grass Carp and Big head Carp, however as "Carp anglers" the main two of interest are the Commons and Grassies with a few nice Catfish as a bonus!

Carpfisher you are right - PC is what you might call a challenging water. We have seen plenty of carp showing but have yet to catch. Bottom is clay with a few rocks. Fairly flat with an average depth of about 14 feet at the end nearest Brides Pool.

The biggest obstacles are that it's not easy to get to unless you have a car, you cannot camp there or use boats (against Country Park Rules). Though it does seem to be OK to take away whatever you catch, trap and electro-fish, have BBQs and leave all of your crap behind at the site when you leave.

There must be some big carp in there.

hi Harry,

It be hard to fish Plover Cove blind, water is too big. You are right about getting there, on googlemap, it looks pretty remote. I love to give it a go once I settled in, might get my mate to drive me up there if he has time and take a look. Any other smaller waters on Hong Kong Island that is worth trying?

cheers

Very good points Harry!!!

That is the Challenge! Not the Carp! Carp is a Carp is a Carp!

As you have rightly stated Harry, it is the distance involved to pre-bait, Lack of transport, time, also access to the water, if we could get around these obstacles then we would catch! No doubt about it! How big are they? No Idea, but must be a few old lumps in there, as the water contains Big head Carp to 98lbs!!! So a very mature water with lots of natural food!

And yes you can not bivvie up but can leave this wonderful place covered in crap! Thats OK!

IMHO This is a bait Boat water, thats what they are designed for! And bait to a marker float several times before dropping or casting the rig out.

They are only Carp, but this is made so difficult by the location of the pond and stupid rules!

In our small Carp team we have over 100 years of experience, so I'm sure we will or could catch them!

By the way, we clean up every swim we fish, I hope others will do the same?

Yeah right!

Rant over!
