Bungsamran Shop
Troops
I will be wetting a line on Wednesday at Bungsamran in BKK. The shop there has some really good deals on reels from time to time. If there is anything specific you want me to look for let me know, and I will pick it up. I think I am going to try and get a baitrunner or a nice ambassador.
Cheers

If it is the Shimano 6500 or 4500B you want, the shop in Wan Chai was cheaper than BSR although that was a year ago.

Here's hoping you had something decent during your visit DB!????
There's some stunning Siamese Carp in Bungsamran, if you can get past those dreaded catfish!
(although they still don't deserve throwing back from head height at high speed, contrary to some of the more recent photos i've seen ).
Cheers,
Jeff

We only managed a few hours early morning before heading for the return flight. The usual cats, nothing much of note size wise, but a few good scraps. I still reckon pound for pound they are the strongest fish I have ever come across. A couple of silver barb type fish which the first time I have caught them there. Also a reasonable Pacu - sharp teeth nashing away. At the tail end we even got a nice sized tilapia which was first for me there as well. Pics to come later. I saw someone collecting small tilapia in a bucket - I assume for the arapaima, although I did not see the long red back breaking the surface this time. What beautiful place it is when its early morning there - really quite something. Happy Days.

Gents, I forgot to mention. The hooks being used by the "guide" were what appeared to be the usual chemically sharpended Jap style. The only problem was they kept breaking - make sure you take your own.

Hi DB
Interesting to note your comment abt the thai cats being top of the p4p - certainly I was pretty shocked and mightily impressed the first time I caught one, but I am not well travelled in terms of my fish catches list, so wondered what fish you are comparing them to specifically in your experience? ( in a top trumps kind of way )
Im off to BSR in a couple months and thought abt replacing the local ready made feeders with hooks already tied to them with some owner sea hooks - had a bad experience with hook breakages last time out - what type and size hooks did you use?
Cheers

Coffee
I have caught big salmon off of Vancouver Island and striped bass off Point Pleasant New Jersey and p4p the cats came top for me. Unstoppable if they want to be.
Hook wise - it has got to be super sharp due to how hard the cats mouth is. After that the size is really your choice. I have caught them there on small spinning roads and size 4 hooks whilst going after tilapia during quiet spells so if they are sharp and as high quality as you can get then they will do the job.
Good luck when you go. Remember to get the cabin at BSR with the bedroom...................
