Water Test
Water Test
By Bill
I tried the water test on Kingfisher KF10BA Bite Alarm on 3 Feb after Kev challenge me to see if the alarm is indeed water resistance . It is stated Water Resistance and I drop it into a glass of water see photo. I did it twice, the first time I drop it for 5 secs and some bubbles pop out from the alarm after that the alarm still is in normal working condition. For the second test I drop it into the water until all the bubble stop that means the whole alarm is submerged underwater that takes about 15 sec. Then the LED is still on but when I took it out it gave a beep and switch off.
After I dried the battery and the outer casing every time I turn in on it gave a beep and switch off. Now I strip the casing and dried the inside of the circuit. Immediately I tried to turn it on again and it gave a beep and switch off automatically. I strip the alarm casing and dried the PCB using a tissue paper and I left it out to dry and the next day 4 Feb at around 12 noon I turn the alarm on by pressing the tack switch on the pcb board of the alarm and beep beep it went on and function normally. I reassemble the whole alarm and it is in fine working condition now. It is a truly water resistance alarm.
Just wonder how many alarms will stand this water test?

If you tie your rod pod down then they shouldn't fall in the water.
I have to dog sit over the CNY holidays so I can't get up to Pine Valley. I will be up for a day at Plover Cove on the 3rd day i.e. 16th Feb I hope I will not drop my Kingfishers in the pond.

Can't do PV either during the new year holidays (no visa or cash!), but up for a day or two out in HK somewhere.
Have 9 days off (a first for me), so who's gonna be out and about?
I also Fancy doing Plover, so will join you on the 16th Terry, and maybe somewhere new on one of the other days.
Will try Tai Lam Chung, or Shing Mun....As you know more about HK resi's than I do, T, any ideas, tips etc??
Oh, and gents, there's a difference between water "resistance" and water "proof"....Best check is to look at the level of resin encapsulation on the electronics, and also whether the battery compartment is sealed or not (by a rubber plate/o-ring etc).
That's why the Gardener TLB is "water proof" Kevin...you need to unscrew the battery compartment, whereas nearly every other buzzer is "resistant" !

Oh, and now that I've joined in, this officially qualifies as a mass-debate......

Tai Lam has the bets prospects as it is remote to get to and is an older ressie. Shing Mun is too accessible to Tsuen Wan residents and is heavily fished.
For the 16th I have a couple of sites I would like to try

It's a plan !
I went to access the South part of Tai Lam Resi today as it's closer to where I live.
Tai Lam Chung Road from Castle Peak Road - found that it's a 'restricted zone' , as the correctional services is there.
I spoke with a taxi driver (in a mixture of poor Chinese and English!) and he told me I can go in there with a fishing license (!!!)
Didn't try my luck, but wondered if anyone else had any knowledge on this.
The WSD lists Tai Lam Chung as fishable, although I've only seen the water from the north west.
Cheers,
Jeff
